Gitam University inks pact with Lancaster University
Focus is on areas which will help society, students.
Visakhapatnam: World reputed UK-based Lancaster University came forward to offer collaborative academic programmes at the proposed Gitam Uni-versity off campus at Amar-avati, the AP capital. Gitam University Regist-rar Prof. M. Potharaju and Lancaster University Pro Vice-Chancellor (Internati-onal) Prof. Steve Bradley exchanged the MoU documents in the presence of Gi-tam University Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.S. Prasada Rao, on Wednesday.
While signing on MoU, Gitam University Vice-Cha-ncellor Prof. M.S. Prasada Rao said the University was planning to focus on new areas which will help society as well as the student community in the sunrise state. He briefed about the AP government new initiatives like Fintech Academy, Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology. Further, he added that Git-am University wants to dev-elop human resource in science and technology, manag-ement, sociology to support the state government goals.
As part of MoU, both the institutions initially develop short-term academic progr-ammes, joint research cooperation and curriculum dev-elopment. The tie-up also fo-cuses on enhancing the cap-acity of the two universities to carry out relevant resear-ch and to secure the requi-red external funding for same.
Lancaster is ranked 129th in the QS World University Rankings 2016-17, and 137th in the World University Rankings 2016-17. Lancaster is also considered one among Europe's elite universities. Lancaster University is a member of the N8 Group, which focuses on five areas of research: Ageing and Health; Energy; Molecular Engineering; Regenerative Medicine and Water, a research partnership of the top eight most research intensive universities in the North of England.
