HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday suspended the appointment of Dr K. Ramesh Reddy as in-charge Director of Medical Education (DME) of Telangana, holding it as illegal.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao dealt with a petition by Dr O. Shravan Kumar, professor of Osmania Medical College, and granted the order.

Dr K. Lakshmi Narasimha, counsel for the petitioner, argued that as per the Andhra Pradesh Medical Education Service Rules, adopted by the Telangana government, professors of all disciplines in the teaching side who have completed five years of service have to be arranged in terms of seniority as assistant professors.

He told the court that in this case, during 2017, the state government had secretly prepared a seniority list of all the professors based on their initial appointment as civil assistant surgeons in the non-teaching side.

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that a Division Bench of the court quashed the appointment of the director of medical education in Andhra Pradesh in February 2018, considering that the service is in non-teaching side and directed it to prepare a seniority list of all professors but not one based on the seniority of civil assistant surgeons of non-teaching line.

While suspending the appointment, the Judge directed the Telangana government to make appointments to the post of DME, strictly as per the rules and as per the law, declared by the Division Bench of the High Court pertaining to AP.
