Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi celebrates Women's Day with sanitary workers
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said that women outnumber men in every constituency here, while inaugurating the function.
Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Thursday celebrated International Woman’s Day with sanitary workers of the Union Territory. Sanitary workers of Swachatha Corporati- on were invited to Raj Nivas and were honoured as a symbol of gratitude to women, who toiled in unhealthy environment and rendered work in extenuating circumstances.
More than 800 workers participated in the function. Ms Bedi in her address said that Raj Nivas would ensure all help to sanitary workers including health care and assistance and in cases of domestic violence through the coordination of various government departments. The Lt Governor asked the supervisor of Swachatha Corporation to contact Raj Niavas in case they face any difficulties in obtaining benefits from government.
International Women’s Day was celebrated on behalf of Department of Women and Child Development in which Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and Lt Governor Kiran Bedi participated among others.
Ms Bedi in her addressing said that domestic violence be prevented at any cost. She said that Anganwadi workers should educate the families affected in domestic violence. Ms Bedi said when compared to other states proper security was ensured to the women in Puducherry.
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said that women outnumber men in every constituency here, while inaugurating the function. Listing out the concession being provided to women by the Congress government here, the Chief Minister said there is reservation for women in local body election and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take steps to provide 33 per cent reservation to them in Parliament and Legislature.
