Tirupati: SVIMS distributes sanitary napkins to schoolgoing girls

Tirupati: Celebrating International Women’s Day, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) conducted a  comprehensive screening camp, with the aid of Pink Bus, for women, at Kammapalli Village on Friday. The rally began from SVIMS administration  building. SVIMS nursing students, Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women (SPMCW) first batch of MBBS interns, faculty and kind staff raised the slogan ‘Healthy Women  – Strong Communities’ all the way to SVIMS main entrance, highlighting the importance of health in women. Creating happy communities with health is our goal, said Prof Dr T.S. Ravikumar, director-cum- Vice-Chancellor,  SVIMS.

Multi-disciplinary  team  of  all  doctors, students, nurses, medico workers and  SVIMS – SPMCW  first  batch  of 130 interns,  reached  the  village  to conduct  the cancer  and  other  NCDs  screening. A  total  of  40  teams,  headed  by  community medicine  experts,  went  out  in  the  village  to  conduct  household  surveys.

An  important  initiative  of  SVIMS  was  unveiled  during  the  camp  today.  The SVIMS director-cum-Vice-Chancellor  announced  the  launch  of  ‘Health  &  Hygiene’ programme  for women and  distributed  sanitary  napkins  to  women  and  schoolgoing  girls  on Friday.  4,500  packs  of  sanitary  napkins were  distributed  to  women  in  Kammapalli  & SVIMS  patients.

“We  will  work  for  accumulating  funds  to  continue  this  programme in  future  to  improve  the health  and  hygiene  in  women,”  said  Dr. T. S. Ravikumar.  65  women  were  screened  for  breast,  cervical  &  oral  cancers  during  the  camp. Alongside,  combined  SVIMS-Kammapalli  PHC  team  covered  317  households  on health status.
