Women cops felicitated by commissioner CV Anand
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand on Thursday called upon women from all sections to shed the gender barrier and take up jobs in departments like the police even while living up to their roles in the family.
Anand urged them to come out of the traditional mindset and carve a niche in their chosen field. He was speaking after felicitating 117 female employees in the department, ranging from Home Guards to inspectors, during the International Women’s Day celebrations in the city police commissionerate.
He said that of the 18,432 workforce in the Hyderabad police, 11.5 per cent were women. He appealed to male officers to give space to their women colleagues.
Anand encouraged women to take up more field roles in law and order, traffic and prefer postings in CCS, SB, CID and intelligence.
“Almost all new female SIs (2020 batch) are seeking deputation to lighter wings. After posting Madhulatha as the first woman SHO ever in the 174-year-old history of Hyderabad city police last year, we have only two women SHOs in traffic — Dhanalakshmi and Jyotsna,” he said.
Quoting Melinda Gates, Anand said, “The thing women have yet to learn is, nobody gives you power, you just take it.”
