Both corrupt' AIADMK, DMK, responsible for power losses: Union power minister
During the last seven years, the state discoms had made a staggering loss of Rs 73,159 crore.
Chennai: Accusing both the ruling AIADMK and the opposition DMK of attempting to divert the people’s attention from the real problems by promising freebies on the eve of elections, Union power minister Piyush Goyal, who was the first to raise the “Jayalalithaa inaccessible” issue demanded an explanation from the Dravidian majors as to why the state discoms continued to incur losses to tune of Rs 12,000 crore per annum.
During the last seven years, the state discoms had made a staggering loss of Rs 73,159 crore and Tamil Nadu was the only state in India to make increasing losses in distribution and report pilferage. “The State could have been number one but because of the high level of corruption of these two parties which caused losses to the state discoms,” he said blaming the two Dravidian parties for the ‘power’ mess. His party would order a probe into the power purchase agreements entered upon by the Tamil Nadu government, if it was given a clear mandate by the people in this May poll.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Mr. Goyal said the DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, too, like the Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was “inaccessible” to the people and he challenged the media to prove him wrong. “BJP is the only party whose leaders are easily accessible to the people. Both the corrupt AIADMK and the DMK should be shown the doors by the electorate for ruining the state,” he added.
‘Lotus will rise to give benefits’
Mr Goyal, releasing the election manifesto of Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP state president contesting from Virugambakkam Assembly constituency, said the BJP would rise from the dirt to give benefits to the people. Urging the people not to get swayed by the freebies announced by the Dravidian majors, he said the freebies would be of little benefit in one’s lifetime. People should not get carried away by false propaganda but make a wise choice and elect the BJP, which has a passion to serve the people.
“For the past so many years, Tamil Nadu has seen only corruption, corruption and corruption. There is a race to the bottom between the two, as if they are fighting for a certificate in corruption,” the minister said referring to the DMK and AIADMK. As self-respecting individuals and citizens, people should reject these two forces and opt for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP which is fighting against the corruption.
The Centre ensured a turnaround in the power sector, not by magic but through hard work, sincerity and commitment. The BJP would work in the same spirit in Tamil Nadu as it was working at the Centre - a scam-free, transparent, working day-and-night Government. Together with other alliance parties, the BJP would make the difference to the political future and the well-being of the people of Tamil Nadu, he assured.
