Hyderabad: The traffic police has failed to put up caution signs on the Begumpet-Secunderabad road, leading motorists into a traffic jam at the Rasoolpura junction, where the staircase of the Metro Rail station is being built.

A sign near Wesley College alerting drivers to take a diversion via Sindhi Colony to Neck-lace Road would make it easy, said motorists.

Mr N. Lakaraju, who takes this route to Banjara Hills, said, “Even at 1 pm. the road was chock-a-block with traffic from Paradise junction. Putting up ‘work under way’ signs on the Metro Rail pillars en route will alert drivers to take a diversion.” No driver understood why traffic was crawling, he said.

A few motorists from Secunderabad are taking the old airport road past Bowenpally to reach Jubilee Hills via Balanagar and Ameer-pet.

Mrs Nalini Sharma, executive with an IT company, said, “It is taking 30 to 45 minutes to cross the Rasoolpura junction and traffic is jammed till HPS.”

Those who have to cross the stretch of road have to start at least 30 minutes early to make up for lost time.

Traffic police has kept two personnel to monitor the junction. A small diversion has been created near the Metro construction site but it is only to help the vehicles that are stuck.

L&T Metro Rail engineers said they had got the right of way and notices were put near the site. “It is for the traffic police to put up signs ahead of the site.” an officer said.

Traffic cop K Satish said that the police had issued a notice, but it was not enough. “People are screaming at us. It is for the officials to decide on putting up the signs,” he said.
