4,294 applicants to slug it out for 762 seats in Phase I
The first phase of the counselling, for which a total of 4,294 candidates are appearing, are being held to fill 562 PG seats and 200 Diploma.
Chennai: Ten of the 11 differently-abled candidates who had applied for Post Graduate admissions, were present for the medical counselling, kickstarted on Monday and got placed to various medical colleges across the state.
Stating that there are 40 seats in total for the differently abled, Dr Selvaraj, secretary, Selection Committee, said, “Twentyone seats will fall under the All India quota while 19 will be for the state quota. We had borrowed a seat from the all India quota the previous year and therefore had to surrender one for the coming year.”
The 11th candidate who had applied, got selected under the all India quota and therefore did not need to attend the counselling on Monday, he added.

“The state has 21 medical colleges of which only 13 run PG programmes. There are 10 deemed universities, which will surrender 50 per cent of their seats to the government quota,” added the secretary.
