The CMRS clearance was the most critical part of the safety and competence of the metro.
Kochi: The Kochi Metro has cleared all hurdles for starting the commercial operations. The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) gave it the clearance certificate on Monday, which is one of the fastest clearances okayed by CMRS for any metro system in the country, according to Kochi Metro Rail Limited authorities. A technical team led by CMRS K.A. Manoharan had made a three-day inspection along the Aluva – Palarivattom metro corridor last week.
While issuing the safety certificate, the CMRS has made some suggestions and recommendations. The KMRL has been asked to make rectifications regarding the positioning of security cameras. It has also been instructed to complete the installation of telecommunication system.
Based on the CMRS recommendations, the KMRL will ask the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to complete the works immediately and submit the compliance report. The date of inauguration of the metro service will be announced soon. The state government is waiting for the convenience of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The chief minister’s office has already contacted the PMO to confirm his available date. The CMRS clearance was the most critical part of the safety and competence of the metro. The team travelled along the corridor on motorized trolley and evaluated the facilities, services and security arrangements at stations. After the inspection, the CMRS team expressed satisfaction and the KMRL authorities were hopeful of getting the clearance.
