Chennai: The state unit of the BJP took potshots at the opposition DMK’s all party meet on Cauvery dubbing it as mere “farce” and said it lacked ‘courage’ to condemn Karnataka government’s belligerent stand on the issue.

Flaying the DMK and other opposition parties for announcing to defer their agitation plans till May 14, BJP State president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said the decision clearly indicated that these opposition parties, which have been staging agitations condemning the Centre, have now come to accept the “reality.”

All along they have been staging agitations hoping to gain political mileage but after the Apex court’s directive today, they had announced to postpone the agitation.

On Tuesday the Supreme Court directed the Union Water Resources Secretary to personally appear before it on May 14 with a draft of the Cauvery management scheme for implementation of its verdict on water sharing between four states including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

“The DMK’s all party meeting is a farce. The Cauvery issue will be resolved immediately after the BJP comes to power in Karnataka,” Dr. Tamilisai said on Tuesday. Lashing out the DMK working president M. K. Stalin for selectively targeting the Centre on the Cauvery issue, the BJP senior said he did not have the courage to condemn the Congress government in Karnataka which was against releasing water to Tamil Nadu.
