College student ends life in Chengannur

Alappuzha: A girl student of the Christian College, Chengannur, committed suicide by jumping off the second floor of the college building on Wednesday. She was identified as Athira U. Krishnan, 21, third-year BSc botany student and daughter of Unnikrishna Pillai and Greetha, UK Bhavan, Venmony, near Chengannur.

The incident took place around 11.40 a.m. while she was chatting with her two classmates on the second floor. All of a sudden she jumped to the ground. The people there thought that it was an accident, but her friends told the police that she leapt out of the floor. The police found a  suicide note which said that she took the decision as she hated this world. She had no love affair. She was also frustrated over failing in two subjects in the last varsity examination, said Mr Sivasuthan Pillai, DySP, Chengannur.

There was also a cut on her wrist. Though she was rushed to the hospital, her life could not be saved. The body was shifted to the medical college here for autopsy which will be held on Thursday.
