Dasara gift: Telangana collectors propose to create 13 new districts
Thirteen districts to be formed, decision on splitting Ranga Reddy put off.
Hyderabad: Telangana collectors proposed to create 13 additional districts at a conference convened by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday.
The proposal on the 14th district to be carved out of Ranga Reddy has been left to Mr Rao since there was no consensus on whether the proposed Vikarabad district should be created from Ranga Reddy or be merged with another new district.
The temple towns of Yadadri and Bhadrachalam figure in the list of new districts.
Mr Rao felt that the list of new districts should be kept in the public domain for suggestions and public hearings should be conducted right from the village level before releasing the draft notification on new districts by August 15.
It has been proposed to bifurcate Hyderabad and create a Secunderabad district instead of earlier plans of carving out four new districts. Mr Rao stated that the new districts should come into existence from Dasara on October 11.
Bhadradri district (Koth-agudem) will be carved out of Khammam. Komaram Bheem district will comprise Mancherial of Adilabad.
Yadadri and Suryapet from Nalgonda, Siddipet and Sangareddy from Medak, Wanaparthy and Nagarkurnool from Mah-bubnagar, Acharya Jaya-shankar district (Bhoopal-apally) and Mahbubabad from Warangal and Jagitial from Karimnagar district are proposed to be carved out.
Chief Commissioner of Land Affairs Raymond Peter said the creation of new districts would be beneficial and convenient for both the government and the public as the delivery of services would improve.
“While the all India average population for each district currently stands at 19 lakh, Telangana has 35 lakh, with a total population of 3.50 crore. With a bigger jurisdiction and limited staff, delivery of services in time is being hit and pendency of works is forcing people to approach government offices for months and years to get their work done. People are incurring unnecessary expenditure to travel longer distances to collectorates and offices in district headquarters frequently, which would be resolved with the creation of new districts,” Mr Peter said.
From 40, Ranga Reddy will have all offices in one place
People from Ranga Reddy district will benefit from the delimitation of districts with all government offices moving under one roof. Right now, the offices are spread in 40 places.
Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts do not have Assembly segments, revenue mandals or even a village in their names. Governments had established offices of Ranga Reddy district at several localities.
Ibrahimpatnam and Maheshwaram constituencies come under Saroornagar revenue division. Villages do not have good connectivity with the RDO’s office at Saroornagar.
People have to visit Malakpet to meet the agricultural officer and Red Hills to meet horticulture and animal husbandry officials. The fisheries office is located at Mallepally and the Rural Water Supply office is at Uppal.
The cooperative officer for Ibrahimpatnam sub-division is in Nam-pally, 50 km from Ibra-himpatnam. The mining office is at Nalla-kunta and police headquarters at Vikarabad, 100 km away from those in the eastern parts. Few departments work out of the Ranga Reddy district collectorate at Lakdikapul.
