Hafeezpet roads turn risky zones
The lack of street lights is causing serious concern over security and safety, especially for senior citizens, women and lone travellers.
Hyderabad: Amid posh high-rise buildings, the Hafeezpet-Hitec City Pipeline Road has few street lights. The road which was previously an access route has now turned into a prime arterial road for techies.
Commuters are facing issues due to an open drain which is difficult to spot at night. The lack of street lights is causing serious concern over security and safety, especially for senior citizens, women and lone travellers.
Added to that is a liquor shop in the vicinity and many residents are scared of the nuisance that the customers cause. A commuter, Mr Vamsi Krishna, said, “We see buildings coming up but with lack of basic amenities. Thousands of techies use this road and to commute in the darkness is scary, especially for women.”
Since the road is shared between the Kukatpally and Serilingampally zones of the GHMC, residents allege neglect from officials. “We were informed that it is not feasible to have street lights here because it is a pipeline road, but it was feasible to give permissions for construction of high-rise buildings. There are electric poles and lines on the same road,” said Abhijeet Sinha, a resident.
When asked, a GHMC official said it was possible to have street lights and they would deploy officials immediately to examine the situation.
