6 held near Karur for attacking village assistant

Karur: The district police have arrested six persons and looking for two more men in connection with the alleged attack on a woman village assistant who attempted to check illegal sand mining at Mettu Maruhur near Kulithalai in Karur district late on Thursday night.
Police said as per the directions of the Village Administrative Officer, Ms. Pragalatha and other village officials engaged in patrolling in that area, they found eight persons lifting sand illegally from Cauvery river bed and transporting it on their two-wheelers.
When Pralatha attempted to intercept them, the gang attacked her and caused injuries on her hand and fled. Later she was admitted to Government hospital, Kulithalai.
Based on the VAO’s complaint, police arrested six persons and are looking for two more persons who are said to be absconding.
