Karwar: Locals begin twitter drive for hospital

The health minister too in a tweet assured that trauma care centres would be set up in Kumta and Karwar.

The fed up people have now started a hashtag campaign, #WeNeedEmergencyHospitalInUttaraKannada, which drew the attention of Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy as hundreds participated in it Saturday evening.

Karwar: Despite being home to 12 taluks and several national highways, that see a number of accidents, Uttara Kannada still does not have a sophisticated hospital to treat the sick and injured. Patients are usually rushed to hospitals in distant places like Manipal, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Hubballi and  Goa, and some in critical condition, even die en route.

The fed up people have now started a hashtag campaign,  #WeNeedEmergencyHospitalInUttaraKannada, which drew the attention of  Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy as hundreds  participated in it Saturday evening.

Responding to the twitter campaign, Mr Kumaraswamy  tweeted back that he would ask for a report on the situation in Uttara Kannada from the health department and do the needful. The health minister too in a tweet assured that trauma care centres would be set up in Kumta and Karwar. According to reports, in the past one year 373 people died and about 2,600 were injured in accidents in Uttara Kannada district.
