Thanjavur: Cases against 4 panchayat officials

Another sum of Rs 2.19 lakh was allegedly misappropriated showing documents of already built houses stating that they have been built new.

Thanjavur: Vigilance and anti-corruption police here have registered cases against four panchayat officials for misappropriation of funds. Cases have been registered against V.Kumar, secretary, Vendayampatti panchayat  in Budalur union, G.Radhakrishnan, superviser, G. Ramesh, engineer and T. Ragunath, Budalur block development officer (panchayat).

According to the police, cases were registered following a complaint lodged by R. Ramachandran, Budalur union secretary of CPI with the director of vigilance and anti-corruption at Chennai. In the complaint, with proper documents as evidence, Ramachandran alleged that during 2016-17, a sum of Rs 4.56 lakh was misappropriated in Vendayampatti panchayat by producing fake documents showing that three houses have been built under Prime Minister Awaaz Yojana (housing scheme) without constructing houses. Another sum of Rs 2.19 lakh was allegedly misappropriated showing documents of already built houses stating that they have been built new.

 From Sorakudipatti, Ganesapuram and Pudutheru panchayats, a total of Rs 24 lakh have been misappropriated under various schemes showing false documents, Ramachandran alleged.
