Fresh life for major water bodies
Hussainsagar, Musi river to be filled with water from Godavari.
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would clean all major water bodies and fill them with fresh water. The corporation will pump out water from Hussainsagar, the Musi river and Mir Alam Tank and refill them with fresh water. With the view to develop city infrastructure, Rs 15,000 crore would be earmarked every year and Rs 45,000 crore to transform the city into a global destination.
City mayor Bonthu Ram-mohan said that a co-ordination meeting will be held with the GHMC, HMWS&SB, HMDA, HMRL, Electricity and other departments to chalk out a development plan.
Mr Rammohan said on Sunday that the corporation would prepare an action plan for developing city infrastructure with Rs 15,000 crore for three years from the next financial year. He said that the civic body would prepare a proposal to minimise road digging according to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s suggestions.
“In order to take up the comprehensive development of the city the civic body would decentralise and further divide circles from 30 to 50 and zones from six to 10. With the state government assurance of sanctioning Rs 50,000 crore apart from allocating Rs 15,000 crore for the corporation every financial year,” he said.
Commenting on minimising water contamination in city water bodies, Mr Rammohan said that the corporation would construct sewerage treatment plants on nalas. The corporation will also purify nalas with water from the Godavari. The mayor said that the chief minister has also instructed the corporation to clean Hussian Sagar, Musi River and Mir Alam Tank by filling them with Godavari water.
“The civic body would plant as many as 5 lakh saplings during current year and distribute 35 lakh saplings for free of cost to the citizens,” he said.
