Hyderabad: Excess money paid by parents for the engineering batch of 2016-19 must be adjusted by engineering colleges in line with the Supreme Court order, the Engineering College Parents Association demanded.

More than 5,400 students of Vasavi and Sreenidhi engineering colleges have paid Rs 1.6 lakh per year whereas the students were to pay Rs 97,000.

Mr C. Srinadh, chairman of the Parents Joint Action Committee, explained, “The batch of 2016-18 will complete their term and the new revised fee for the block period of 2019-22 is only Rs 1.3 lakh per year. The Supreme Court order has come in favour of the parents and we want the state education department to intervene and ensure that the fee is adjusted for the continuing students. It must be refunded to those who are in last year.”

The parents held a meeting to decide the road map ahead as there is a huge amount of money that has been blocked by the college authorities.

Mr Nagati Narayana, president of the Telangana Parents Association, said that all colleges who have taken excess fee during the block period must refund it to the parents.

“We have asked government to intervene and take action. The Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee has fixed a certain fee and all colleges must follow only this. Parents also need to be aware of the fee structure so that they do not end up paying more,” he said.
