Kochi: The Kochi Corporation has decided not to take action against the Abhimanyu memorial constructed by the SFI at Ernakulam Maharaja's College.

Earlier, the Kerala Students Union (KSU) had complained that the memorial was built in violation of the rules and the civic body conducted a probe into it. The officials have reportedly concluded that the memorial does not come under the building rules.

The High Court had earlier decided to examine whether the memorial comes under the definition of 'building' as per the Kerala Municipality Building Rules, 1999 after the government pleader submitted that there was no need to take the permission of Kochi Corporation to erect the memorial.

The superintending engineer, assigned for the probe stated in his report that there was no need of permission from the civic body for erecting such a memorial.

"According to the report, the construction is not a building and thus it does not come under the purview of the Kerala Municipal Building Rules," a source said.

The report is likely to be filed before the High Court on July 11.

The unveiling of the memorial on July 2 had created a controversy when the KSU activists alleged that it was built in violation of the building rules.
