Stop dumping waste in drains: GHMC

Hyderabad: Stopping the dumping of solid waste into stormwater drains, and cleaning and de-silting the drains is very important to prevent waterlogging because that allows the excess water to drain away.
Rainwater harvesting pits, water tanks and geometric lift of the infrastructure are also important measures to contain and conserve water, said Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials and professors of JNTU who have studied waterlogged areas in the city.
Professor Dr V. Giridhar and Professor Laxman Rao have toured Shilparamam and Durgam Cheruvu and have identified the reasons for the accumulation of water and the obstructions to the flow of water. The road from Google to Cyber Towers needs cross flow pipes, catchment pits, and inter connecting of stormwater drains which must be done from Thummidikunta so that the rainwater flows easily. The professors said that water tanks in parks and government lands must be created so that the flow of water to the main road will be reduced.
