Two 750 MW gas turbine power stations to come up in Chennai

Chennai: As part of an initiative to improve the power infrastructure, and further enhance the installation capacity, the government has proposed to establish two 730 MW capacity gas turbine power stations in Chennai, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami informed the Assembly.
“These gas turbine power stations would be established at an estimated cost of Rs 5,000 crore. Also, a detailed project report will be prepared soon,” Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said on Monday. Making a statement under rule 110 in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said the government has plans to spend `3,000 crore towards installing new equipment at the five thermal power stations so as to follow the TNPCB's emission norms.
New sub-stations of 230 KV capacity would be established in Tiruvannamalai, Namakkal and Tirunelveli districts at a cost of `510 crore. Six sub-stations of 110 KV capacity each will be established in Chennai, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Perambalur, Coimbatore and Salem districts at a total cost of `135 crore.
In the cyclone Gaja-ravaged district of Nagapattinam, the government would replace 100 km of overhead lines with underground cables for Rs. 300 crore, Mr. Palaniswami said. Also, steps would be taken to appoint 150 assistant engineers in Tangedco, the CM added.
On the education front, he said teachers would be trained to handle the new syllabus introduced by the government. New classrooms, labs, libraries, toilets and other amenities would be provided in schools at a cost of Rs 163.45 crore.
