Telangana Speaker gets Hyderabad HC notice on TDLP merger
The petitioner asked the court to direct the Tribunal to decide the disqualification petitions.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday issued notices to the Speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly and 11 MLAs of the Telugu Desam who have joined the Telangana Rashtra Samiti.
The notices were issued on a petition, which questioned the Speaker’s decision to allow merger of the Telangana Telugu Desam Legislature Party with the TRS Legislature Party in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
A. Revanth Reddy, TD MLA and TD Floor Leader in the Telangana Assembly, moved the petition on the ground that the Speaker, who is also chairman of the Tribunal under X Schedule, has jurisdiction to decide the issue of disqualification but not to decide the merger of a political party.
While contending that the act of the MLAs attracts the anti-defection law and the petition seeking their disqualification was already pending before the Tribunal, the petitioner asked the court to direct the Tribunal to decide the disqualification petitions.
