Expedite parole for Perarivalan: PMK
There are reports that Perarivalan has been provided treatment in Vellore prison and later admitted to Vellore government hospital, said Ramadoss.
Chennai: PMK founder S.Ramadoss on Tuesday demanded expedition of granting parole to Perarivalan, a convict in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, since the prisoner's health had been affected.
Citing Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami's promise in Assembly last month to grant Perarivalan parole, Ramadoss said the advocate general had opined that there would be no legal hurdle for his release.
Besides, the Vellore prison administration and Vellore government hospital doctors had recommended shifting Perarivalan to Puzhal prison since his urinary infection could be treated only at Chennai Rajiv Gandhi hospital. But, the state government had not shifted him, Ramadoss said.
There are reports that Perarivalan has been provided treatment in Vellore prison and later admitted to Vellore government hospital, said Ramadoss. Former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa promised to release the seven prisoners in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Even three and half years after Jayalalithaa's announcement, the prisoners have not been released. “Though, the case filed by the Centre remains the major obstacle, the state government has done nothing to cross the hurdle”, Ramadoss said.
The state government is refusing to accept the demand that the seven convicts could be released using section 161 and not even granting parole to them. The prisoners, who are in jail for the last 27 years, are facing various problems and Perarivalan in particular has been affected by kidney infection.
The PMK leader said Perarivalan is moving from pillar to post to get his release, but the state government has not shown any interest in granting him parole. He also wanted the release of all prisoners to mark Independence Day.
