BENGALURU: The floods in Maharashtra and northern districts of Karnataka are resulting in the rise of vegetables and fruits prices in the city.

Padmaraj T., who is in-charge of a HOPCOMS outlet in Indiranagar, told Deccan Chronicle that vegetable prices have started increasing, especially of onions and tomatoes, as they come to the city from Maharashtra.

In addition, he said the current price of onions is Rs 29 per kg and tomatoes is Rs 32. Both these vegetables have seen an increase in 3-4 rupees since last week.

Similarly, he felt the prices of lemon and pomegranate, which the city gets from Vijayapura, will also rise as the region is witnessing heavy rainfall. This would dampen the festival spirit this weekend.

Horticultural Producers' Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS) is the farmers' society that supplies fresh vegetables and fruits to many customers in the city.
