Kabini brimming, one lakh cusecs released to Tamil Nadu amid flood alert

Mysuru: Following heavy rains in Wayanad in Kerala for the past two days, Kabini reservoir in HD Kote taluk received a huge inflow of over 90,000 cusecs with the water level just two feet away from its optimum level of 2,284 feet.  One lakh two thousand cusecs of water was released into the river leading to Tamil Nadu on Thursday.

The authorities at Kabini reservoir and also Nugu, and Taraka reservoirs in HD Kote taluk have issued a flood alert to people living on the banks of the rivers downstream of these dams, asking them to move to safer places. With excess outflow from Kabini, the Kapila river bridge at Nanjangud connecting Kerala, and Suttur connecting Mysuru are likely to be submerged.

With a long weekend ahead, Mysuru SP Mr Rishyanth has advised tourists who are likely to visit Chunchunkatte, Nanjangud and Talakadu to either postpone trips or not to get into the water.

Due to heavy rains in Mysuru district, six houses in Mysuru taluk, 27 houses in Nanjangud taluk, 13 houses in Hunsur taluk, 34 houses in HD Kote taluk and 7 houses in Periyapatna taluk were damaged.
