Odia Girl Student's Death in IIT Hyderabad, Deceased's family alleges ragging, murder
Bhubernawar: The family members of Mamitha Naik, an Odia student at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H), who was found dead in her hostel room on campus late Monday evening, have alleged that she is a victim of ‘ragging.’
Her classmates found her hanging from the ceiling fan. They alerted the hostel authorities and they in turn informed Sangareddy rural police. Her body was subsequently shifted for autopsy.
The police reportedly found a suicide letter in her room in which she wrote that no one was responsible for her suicide. She wrote that she was taking the extreme step due to mental stress.
However, Mamitha’s father claimed that his daughter did not commit suicide, rather she was murdered.
“I got the news around 10 pm. The principal told me that my daughter is no more. She was a talented girl and she didn’t have any mental stress about her studies. We do not have any kind of financial crisis. We don’t think that she has committed suicide. She is a victim of ragging and she has been murdered,” said Mamitha’s father.
As per reports, the family members were in regular touch with Mamitha and she didn’t have any pressure regarding her study and financial matters. They were shocked after getting the news of her death from the principal.
Notably, Mamitha was a resident of Dumuri village under Subalaya police station in Subarnapur district. The 21-year-old girl had taken admission at the Indian Institute of Technology on July 26 this year.
Mamita’s family members were crestfallen after her death. A pall of gloom has descended on the area after her untimely demise.
Reports last came in said the body of the Mamitha reached her home on Wednesday evening.
