court acquits thushar in cheque case
Sources close to Thushar said that he might fly to Kerala on Sunday night.
Thrissur: The Ajman Court in UAE on Sunday dismissed the case filed against BDJS leader Thushar Vellappally in the alleged cheque bounce case on the complaint filed by Nazil Abdullah, an NRI businessman and native of Mathilakam here.
Following a few hearings, the court that is equivalent to a magistrate court in India, delivered its judgment that it has come to light that the case did not have merit and cleared junior Vellapally of all charges. It also returned the passport of Mr Thushar that was withheld as a bail guarantee. Sources close to Thushar said that he might fly to Kerala on Sunday night.
Mr Abdullah, an electrical engineer by profession, had filed a complaint citing that as per the sub-contract agreement he had with Thushar’s construction firm in Dubai 10 years ago, the junior Vellapally owed him 9 billion UAE Dirham.
Mr Abdullah had also claimed that the number on the cheque which he had presented before the Ajman court was the same mentioned in the agreement regarding sub-contracting between Thushar’s firm and that of Abdullah.
While Thushar was finding his going tough in the case, a voice clip of Abdullah speaking to a friend of his nearly two months ago of his plans to buy a blank cheque with Thushar’s signature from another businessman in possession of it and to mention an amount of nearly 10 million Dirham on it had emerged.
Soon after the verdict to quash all charges on Thushar he thanked NRI businessmen M.A. Yousuf Ali and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for assisting him during the ordeal.
Thushar had spent a day in the jail in August in the case before he got bail.
Thushar said in the press meet in Dubai on Sunday evening that he did not use the concerned voice clip of Abdullah before the court and it could be used as a evidence before the court. “It was after verifying the documental evidence I submitted before the court I got an order in my favour,” he noted.
