G S Jha convinced of farmers' plight

Hassan: Chairman of Central Water Commissioner, G S Jha, said on Saturday his team has understood problems faced by farmers in the Cauvery basin following a tour of the region.

After assessing water storage at Hemavathy reservoir, Mr Jha said his team has taken note of all issues, and would submit a detailed report to the Union Government.  

Hassan district in-charge and animal husbandry minister A Manju said the Hemavathy reservoir was almost empty and therefore, the state was not in a position to release water to Tamil Nadu.

Chikkamagalur:
A debt ridden farmer, Santosh, 34, allegedly committed suicide in Dadarahalli, Chikkamagaluru district, on Saturday. Santosh took the extreme step as was under pressure to repay loans borrowed from cooperative banks.
