Damaged drain adds to citizens' woes in Kapra

Hyderabad: DLR Enclave at Kapra is completely inundated with rainwater and water from the drainage system despite a respite in rains.
The main nala, which is supposed to carry water from the colony to Kapra Lake, is broken in the middle since the past three years. A failure to carry out repairs has led to further damage and the continuous overflowing of water.
R. Sridhar, a resident of the colony, says, “It is rainwater mixed with drainage water, which is a cause of worry. To add to the problem, one of the roads used for public transport has completely caved in, making it extremely dangerous for use.”
The concrete road adjacent to the nala has broken into four pieces and there are small fountains of water spurting out from around it.
Water from 25 colonies in Sainikpuri comes to the Kapra inlet, and the overflowing water shows no sign of dying down. The lids of drain holes have been removed and kept as-ide, and the flowing streams almost sound like the sea.
Staff of the engineering and sanitation departme-nts of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) visited the colony on Saturday morning, but they were unable to control the flow of water despite having men and pressing machines on the job. The GHMC workers used an air tech machine and removed a whole truck-load of silt but the ten-foot-deep nala is still filled with silt to a depth of eight feet, resulting in the overflowing of water onto the road.
MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar visited the colony on Sunday and spoke to the residents about the problem. Complete desilting of the nala is necessary for the issue to be resolved.
