Heavy waterlogging holds up Hyderabad
In LB Nagar, Old City there was heavy waterlogging. Trees were uprooted in the Old City and three cars partially damaged.
Hyderabad: Heavy rains on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon have damaged city and created the usual potholes. Even national highways passing through the city are badly damaged with sinkholes and washed out bitumen.
In LB Nagar, Old City and Bowenpally, there was heavy waterlogging. Officials said heavy water-logging was reported in 12 places, but complaints came in from nearly 100 localities bordering natio-nal highways.
The GHMC Commi-ssioner has alerted monsoon teams to begin draining off the water after visiting the worst hit areas of the city.
Trees were uprooted in the Old City and three cars partially damaged. There was no power in a majority of colonies in the East and South Zones.
Miralam recorded 101.3 mm of rainfall on Satur-day night, followed by Amberpet (55.5), Asif-nagar (55.3), Narayanaguda (52.3) and Rajendranagar (50.8).
Most other localities received less than 50 mm. On Sunday afternoon, Bahadurpura in the Old City recorded 65 mm and Viratnagar, near DMRL, 64 mm. Other localities recorded below 50 mm
Since the beginning of the month, the state has received 46 per cent surplus rainfall, districts such as Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar , Medak, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy and Waran-gal are in the excess rainfall zone. The composite Adilabad, Khammam and Nizama-bad districts are in the deficit zone.
