Andhra Pradesh Met the Highest Power Demand of More Than 262 MU During Summer
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has embarked on an ambitious journey to bolster the power supply to industries and ensure sustainability in the power sector.
It is forging partnership with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), a joint venture of National PSUs under the aegis of the Union power ministry. Special chief secretary to the energy department, K Vijayanand, said AP is proactively enhancing industrial power supply to accommodate rising industrial activities.
He said that in collaboration with EESL, the energy department is keen on adopting advanced energy-efficient global technologies in the areas of energy efficiency to ensure power sector sustainability.
Vijayanand said, “Growth indicators speak volumes as AP commitment to sustainable power is bearing fruit, as is reflected in the impressive statistics thereof. The state’s power utilities have stepped up its operations to meet the surging power demand, successfully recording an average demand of 218 MU -- a significant jump from the 161 MU registered four years ago.
He said the Discoms have supplied round-the-clock supply to consumers and even met the highest power demand of more than 262 MU during the summer. “This impressive growth trajectory signifies the state’s relentless pursuit of progress,” he said, adding that AP electricity regulatory commission (APERC) is keen on providing the highest quality power and enhancing its support to Discoms for energy efficiency with robust regulations.
Vijayanand said the AP government is taking proactive measures to enhance energy efficiency through strategic energy conservation cells (ECCs), raising awareness about the role of energy conservation in mitigating climate change.
The special CS has suggested EESL to interact with the industries department of AP for studying on enhancement of energy efficiency in industries.
