Acharya Nagarjuna University: National athletics meet from November 16
Nearly 3,000 athletes would take part in the championship in the age group 14-20 years.
GUNTUR: Narasaraopeta MP and senior politician Rayapati Sambasiva Rao said that the 33rd Coromandel National Junior Athletic Championship-2017 will be held from Nov. 16 to 20 at the Acharya Nagarjuna University, under the joint aegis of the Andhra Pradesh Athletic Association and SAAP. Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, the senior MP said that nearly 3,000 athletes would take part in the championship in the age group 14-20 years from all the state in the country and that 144 events would be held in the championship.
Mr Sambasiva Rao said that the blue international synthetic track is available in ANU alone and hence, the university has been chosen for the national event. Competitions will be held in floodlights. He said winners of the championship will be selected for international athletics championship. Lodging, boarding and transport facility would be provided to athletes, coaches and other officials.
He said that Coromandel Fertilisers is the main sponsor for the event. APAA secretary Raghavendra Rao said that Union minister Sujana Chowdary, AP ministers K. Ravindra, P. Pulla Rao, S. Raghava Rao, N. Ananda Babu and Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, Guntur MP Galla Jayadev, MLAs and other eminent persons will be attending the championship to be held in ANU. He said that minister for IT N. Lokesh will be the chief guest at the valedictory.
