Telangana cancels land lease to news agency UNI

Hyderabad: Special chief secretary to the government (revenue) B.R. Meena on Wednesday issued orders for the cancellation of lease of 1,604 sq yards and to the United News of India (UNI)  for violating the lease agreement.The government had allocated the land at AC Guards near Mahavir Hospital, on lease to UNI on November 29, 1983 for establishing its office for 60 years at Rs 1,955 per month excluding maintenance, municipal and other taxes with the power to mortgage the property with banks for availing loan to construct building. 

The Hyderabad collector in 2016, verified the building and found that the G+3 building’s major portion was being rented out to other organisations and UNI was earning Rs 12 lakh as rent per month. This was in violation of the lease agreement. On October 21, 2016 the collector wrote to the government on the issue. After examining the issue, the special chief secretary to the government on Wednesday cancelled the lease and directed the district collector to take necessary action.
