TN Governor Banwarilal Purohit is learning Tamil
Due to his love for Tamil and his keen interest in learning the language, Governor Purohit has started learning Tamil from a Tamil teacher .
Chennai: Governor Banwarilal Purohit is learning Tamil at the Raj Bhavan here from teacher of the language, keen on keeping his promise made at a recent function of Vice-Chancellors and senior educationists that he would address them in their mother tongue when they next meet.
A Raj Bhavan release on Wednesday said due to his love for Tamil and his keen interest in learning the language, Governor Purohit “has started learning Tamil from a Tamil teacher”. A three-time member of the Lok Sabha from Nagpur, he is fluent in English, Hindi and Marathi. An eminent educationist, he was the managing editor of ‘The Hitavada’, central India’s oldest English daily.
“The Governor said Tamil is a classical and beautiful language and learning the language of a place helps one to converse well with the people”, said the release.
The late Surjeet Singh Barnala during his first term (1990-91) at the Raj Bhavan here took great interest in learning Tamil from renowned scholar M. Nannan, who passed away on Tuesday.
