Doctors assault: KRV activists surrender
Women’s wing prez Ashwini Gowda being questioned.
BENGALURU: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) activists, who allegedly assaulted doctors at the Minto Hospital, surrendered before the city police on Friday.
KRV activists, including Women's Wing vice-president Ashwini Gowda, came to DCP (South) office and surrendered in the presence of ACP Vali Basha.
Later, they were taken into custody by the VV Puram Inspector Shivashankar for questioning. Twelve KRV activists, including six women, are being questioned.
A complaint filed by the doctors stated that 30-plus KRV activists barged into the hospital and assaulted a woman junior doctor for not speaking in Kannada.
KRV president Narayana Gowda maintained that action should be taken against the doctors who are responsible for 15 people becoming blind after a botched cataract surgery sometime ago. Otherwise, a protest will be held, he warned.
Mr Gowda said that the activists are surrendering only because the common man is facing hardships because of a shutdown of all outpatient departments across the state.
The doctors’ strike is aimed at hushing up their scam on their surgeries turning men and women blind. "We will not apologise for the incident," he said.
