Hyderabad High Court stays warrant on MP's husband
Justice T Sunil Chowdary was dealing with a petition moved by Ramakoteswara Rao challenging the warrant issued by the special court.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday stayed the non-bailable warrant issued by a special economic court against P. Ramakoteswara Rao, managing director of Visweswara Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and husband of Araku MP Kothapalli Geetha of AP.
Justice T Sunil Chowdary was dealing with a petition moved by Ramakoteswara Rao challenging the warrant issued by the special court. Mr N. Subba Rao, counsel for the petitioner, told the court that his client had moved an appeal before the special court challenging an order of the trial court that convicted him in a case initiated by the Punjab National Bank after a cheque he issued for repayment of Rs 25 crore bounced.
He said the special economic offences court issued the arrest warrant after he failed to appear before the court. He contended that it was not mandatory that the appellant has to appear before the special court for every adjournment and the Supreme Court had categorically declared in several cases that there was such requirement. He said the special court without considering these facts issued the NBW.
