Telangana police to help tax team

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police has formed special teams to assist the income-tax department by providing security during raids.

I-T officials used to approach the police commissioner or concerned zonal DCP for help. Though this arrangement continues in the districts, in Hyderabad, the city's police commissioner has directed all DCPs to select policemen from the level of constable to additional inspector to assist the I-T teams.

The income-tax department is happy with this decision. “We used to ask local police for protection during raids, but in cases of simultaneous raids, seeking police protection from various police stations was a lengthy process,” said an I-T officer.

“The new system being implemented by Hyderabad police enables speedy decisions. In the case of Laxman Rao, whose Rs 9,800 crore declaration under the IDS has been declared false, we took the assistance of South Zone teams though his house is located in the West Zone," the official said.
