Pochampally Ikat Art Mela commences in Vijayawada
The exhibition includes various handloom products.
Vijayawada: The six-day hand woven, eco-friendly handloom products ‘Pochampally Ikat Art Mela 2017’ began at Sri Raghuraama Vedika, Mohan Das Complex, Patamata on Friday. It was inaugurated by actress Pooja Sree and Pochampally Handloom Park founder-chairman Chikka Krishna. The exhibition includes various handloom products like handmade bed cover sets, home linen, dress materials, silk and cotton saris in exquisite designs created by world famous weavers of Pochampally.
Apparel fabric, stoles, scarves, saris in silk and cotton, dupattas, table mats, covers, cotton shirts, kurtis, handbags and engineered blends are also on display. “I am glad to see the variety of apparel, particularly Ikat fabrics, Ikat silk and cotton saris being showcased for ha-ndloom lovers in the to-wn. Platforms such as this are required to reach out to women looking for well-designed handmade cotton, silk wear and exclusive home textile,” said Pooja Sree.
“Handlooms are part of an age-old Indian tradition, culture and rich artistry. By promoting handlooms, we support the artisans and local community who have been passing on their skills for generations. We promote creativity and originality,” said Chikka Krishna. The Expo will be open from 10 am to 9 pm till December 13, 2017.
