Bengaluru: Gang posing as police informers extorts student
The dental student from Andhra Pradesh is studying at a dental college at Hebbal in the city.
Bengaluru: A group of students allegedly threatened and extorted Rs 50,000 from a dental student, claiming that they were police informers and they could implicate him in a drug peddling case.
The incident though occurred last Monday, came to light on Saturday when the victim approached the police as he has being harassed by the gang to cough up more money.
The dental student from Andhra Pradesh is studying at a dental college at Hebbal in the city.
He stated in his complaint that the accused barged into his house last Monday, placed a packet of marijuana and threatened to inform the police that he was peddling drugs. He pleaded with the gang to spare him as his career would be spoilt. The gang then made him transfer all the money he had through PayTM and other online routes. The accused went back then, but after two days, started demanding Rs 50,000 more. Unable to bear the harassment, he approached the Hebbal police. The police registered a case and started a search for the gang members, who are on the run.
The police said that six to seven members of the gang are students, while two are dropouts.
A senior police officer said that the accused have been identified and the hunt is on.
