Kozhikode: Municipality to aid of students

Kozhikode:The Koyilandy municipality has placed orders for the artworks of the students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Koyilandy, for the local body's beautification process.
The students under the school nature club have made beautiful flower pots and grow bags from waste products like used tyre and flex boards. Used tyre is cut aesthetically and closed at one end using thick card boards.
Soil is filled into the tyre and sapling is planted and it becomes a flower pot. Flex boards were converted to grow bags. The programme was implemented under the 'Punarjani' project conceived by teachers Roshni and V. Rajagopalan.
"We collected used old tyres from shops in and around Koyilandy, besides flex boards, and made useful products from them.
The project is a solution to the waste problem," said headmaster Moosa Mekkunnu. Koyilandy municipal chairman K. Sathyan inaugurated the project.
Kozhikode deputy director of education, E.K. Suresh Kumar, Vadakara district education officer C. Manoj Kumar, Thamarasserry DEO N. Murali, DIET principal Ajith Kumar and school principal A.P. Prabeet among others spoke.
