Cong celebrates Sonia's birthday in a grand manner across TS, CM Revanth
Hyderabad: The Congress leaders and cadre celebrated the 78th birthday of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, whom the party credits for creating Telangana state, in a grand manner on Saturday.
TPCC president and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, ministers and party leaders participated in the celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan, the party's headquarters in Nampally. Revanth Reddy, who visited the party office for the first time after taking oath as CM, cut a 78-kg cake along with senior leaders and former PCC president V. Hanumantha Rao.
Speaking on the occasion, Revanth Reddy said that the announcement of separate Telangana statehood was made on Mrs Gandhi's birthday on December 9, 2009. He said that Sonia Gandhi as UPA chairperson had accorded statehood to Telangana in 2014 as per her promise made in 2004 and fulfilled the six-decade long dreams and aspirations of the people.
The people of Telangana had brought the Congress to power in the recent Assembly polls with a clear majority and expressed their gratitude to Mrs Gandhi, Revanth Reddy stated.
The Chief Minister said the Congress came to power in Telangana state recently with the sacrifices of the Congress workers and their blessings and assured that he will stand by them.
Hanumantha Rao said that two of the Six Guarantees announced by the party were being implemented from Mrs Gandhi's birthday and this proved the sincerity and commitment of the Congress government to fulfill the promises made to people during the Assembly election campaign.
