Vijayawada: Former MP Vundavalli Arunkumar alleged that the TD government was diverting the funds allocated for the multi-purpose Polavaram project to the lift irrigation projects of Pattiseema and Purushottamapatnam.

Addressing a round table conference on farmers’s issues here on Monday, Mr Arunkumar said diversion of the funds would be a great loss to Polavaram.  The TD government is claiming that it is only due to the Pattiseema prject that the Krishna delta farmers have cultivated their crops. “This logic must have been raised to project TD as an efficient party in view of the elections in the future,” he said.

Mr Vundavalli Arunkumar opined that if the Pattiseema and Purushothamapatnam projects funds are utilised for Polavaram project, it would have gone into the next-level of construction. He also criticised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for trying to cheat the public by his false publicity. He wondered why the Chief Minister was feeling very proud of having secured Rs 1,800 crore funds for Polavaram, which actually should have been Rs 40,000 crore.

Only when the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu fights along with the farmers, can water be received for agriculture  but not by filing petitions in the courts. He said that the TD government should strive for the welfare of the farming community.
