Hyderabad: A two-and-a-half-year old girl living in an orphanage in Rajend-ranagar suffered burns under suspicious circumstances. Though child rights activists claimed foul play, the police said that the incident occurred when the child was given a bath.

Balala Hakkula Sangham expressed foul play by organisers and has asked the police to register a case.

Mr G. Suresh, Rajendranagar inspector, said that the police visited the orphanage and conducted an inquiry.

The staff were giving bath to two girls together. One of them played with the boiling water during which water fell on her head and she sustained injuries. She was treated and was discharged.

Another five-year-old girl, an inmate of St Alphonsa Karunya Charitable Trust at Green City in  Budvel village, received severe burns on January 1. She was treated at a private hospital at Khairatabad and was discharged.

“So far our inquiries have revealed no foul play. We will further inquire into the facts and if any violation is found, necessary action will be initiated on the persons responsible,” the inspector said.
