Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC received a record collection of Rs 7.44 crore on Monday even as the public sector behemoth draining the exchequer was going through the worst financial crisis in its history.

The highest collection was from Thiruvananthapuram region with Rs 1.69 crore, beating the earlier high of Rs 7.18 crore recorded on December 23.

It came at a time when the corporation was facing a severe financial crisis and could not even pay the bill of Rs 124 crore for procuring diesel from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), forcing the Central PSU to stop the supply on Tuesday.

The corporation needed 15 lakh litres of diesel per day. However, the crisis has not been felt yet as it has adequate stocks for some more days.

The KSRTC could not pay the pension for the last three months. Only part payments were made for June and September.

The corporation needed Rs 60 crore for paying pensions per month. Of the amount, the government is paying half the amount required to disburse monthly retirement compensation due to the acute financial crisis.
