Hyderabad: A day after YSR Congress MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy claimed that there will be no increase of Assembly seats in AP and Telangana until 2026, Union minister Y. Sujana Chowdary said on Tuesday that the seats will be increased in both states before the 2019 General Elections. While Mr Rajamohan Reddy quoted El-ection Commission, Mr Cho-wdary quoted Union finance minister Arun Jaitley to support the claim.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Mr Chowdary met Mr Jaitley in Delhi on Tuesday. Later, Mr Chowdary told the media, “There is a possibility of increasing Assembly seats in both the Telugu states by the time of the next General Elections in 2019. The central government has clarity in this respect.”

Mr Jaitley has reportedly assured Mr Naidu and Mr Chowdary that, if necessary, the Centre would bring in a Constitutional amendment for this purpose. The YSR Congress MP had a meeting with the Election Commission on Monday, after which he quoted the Commission as saying an increase of Assembly seats in AP and Telangana states was not possible until 2026.
