Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Thursday made it clear that there will be no waiver of penalty on property tax this year. Failure to pay property tax before February-end will invite a 24 per cent penalty, the corporation said.

Property owners were asked to pay their taxes in February. This financial year, the GHMC collected '650 crore more than last year, making it the highest revenue collection in its history.

In November 2016, following demonetisation, GHMC’s tax collection jumped to Rs 188 crore from the Rs 8 crore collected in November 2015. This vaulted the Corporation to the top of the list of cities in tax collection.

“Apart from property tax, citizens should pay vacant land tax and no extra charges would be levied on these payments, if done so before March. After that, a penalty of 24 per cent on the tax amount will be imposed,” said GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy.
