Wedding bells for 2 Mahila inmates

KOCHI: It was a dream-like wedding for Sreelakshmi and Radha, inmates of Mahila Mandiram at Chambakkara run by Kochi Corporation, on Friday. Both of them were married with the blessings and prayers of P.T Thomas MLA, Corporation standing committee chairmen, councillors, officials and others. Biju from Perambra Kozhikode and Suresh from Chelembra, Malappuram tied the nuptial knot with Sreelakshmi and Radha respectively, who have been at Mahila Mandiram for the past two years.     

The marriages were conducted as per Hindu tradition at Chambakkara Gandharva temple after which the newlyweds were given a warm reception at the St. James Church auditorium.  P.T Thomas MLA blessed the newlyweds.  The marriages were held as per the norms prescribed by the Social Justice Department for which the department has provided Rs 1 lakh each for the girls. Other expenses were met through sponsorship by various agencies including BPCL, Kochi Refinery.

Corporation standing committee chairmen A.B Sabu, KVP Krishna Kumar, councillors K.J Antony, V.P Chandran, Corporation secretary A.S Anuja and other officials were also present. As many as 13 inmates of the home have already been married. Maya, the first resident of mandiram to be married, attended today’s weddings with her husband and daughter. Two other old inmates Suhani and Aswathy, who are now living with their partners, also attended the ceremony.
