The power generation for the state is around 4,500 MW, including solar power generated from the Pavagada solar plant in a year.

Bengaluru: It is a regular affair for the city to face load shedding and frequent power cuts during the summer season. But this time, Bescom officials are planning to use solar power and ensure that there are no power cuts.

A senior officer in Bescom said that the state is making maximum use of natural resources by tapping solar power. "We have solar power in abundance and are planning to use it in the city too. Another point which has to be noted that in the morning, power is routed for irrigation pump sets in rural areas and now this will be diverted back to the cities, as the solar power will be used to run the pump sets. This is one of the plans in place to ensure that there is no load shedding in the city."

"According to reports, the power generation for the state is around 4,500 MW, including solar power generated from the Pavagada solar plant in a year. In the coming years, Karnataka will not suffer from power crisis, as we will be generating huge amount of solar power," he added.

"The Bescom is also planning to start awareness and educational programmes to encourage IT and BT, corporate companies, industries, educational institutions and other commercial buildings to install solar rooftop and generate their own power, which would help in a big way," said another officer from Bescom.
