Kottayam: Six held for ruckus at SOS meet
The activists engaged in a verbal fight with the organisers of the convention held at the old police station ground.
Kottayam: The police took into custody six activists of the Catholic Federation who tried to disrupt the convention organised by the ‘Save Our Sisters’ forum here on Saturday in support of the nuns of the MJ congregation.
The activists engaged in a verbal fight with the organisers of the convention held at the old police station ground. The police reached the place and removed the activists.
Earlier, Rev Dr Valsan Thampu, noted educationist and former principal of St Stephen’s College, Delhi, inaugurated the convention.
He recalled the words of Pope Francis who said that the condition of the nuns, who were exploited in the Church, was similar to that of 'sex slaves.'
“Only the Pope who could say this. And only those with immense courage can strive for getting justice," he said.
The Pope’s words that slavery exists in the Church is true, he said. Referring to his own experience as a priest, he said he did not have the freedom to act according to the words of God.
Rev Thampu congratulated four nuns - Anupama, Alphy, Josephine and Neena Rose of the St Francis Mission home, Kuravilangadu - who reached the convention venue and were present on the stage..
