Kozhikodez: Case against 20 for blocking cops

KOZHIKODE: The police has registered cases against 20 people for obstructing them from carrying out their duty at Ummathur under Valayam police station limits in the district on Saturday.

The incident occurred at the venue of a compromise talk held in connection with a clash that took place at a high school at Ummathur last week. The talks convened at a house slipped into violence and two factions engaged in clashes. The police, including Valayam sub-inspector V.M. Jayan, who reached the spot were blocked by a group of people for over half-an-hour. The police then registered cases against 20-odd people, including the owner of the house in whose courtyard the talks were held.

Six people were injured in the melee. They are Poovatt Shamil of Thanakottur, Parakkadavu natives Kadannakandy Jasim, Ottapilakool Sahad, Therkunnummal Siyad, Rayaroth Mohammad Sahir and V.V. Mohammad Naseef. They were treated at the government district hospital, Vadakara.
